Priorities for Tualatin
A Welcoming, Inclusive Community
Every community member, regardless of age, background, income, or identity, deserves to feel valued and included. I will advocate for meaningful engagement so that all voices help shape our city's direction.
- Championing ways to recruit and retain representative voices for city committees and workgroups and advocating for the continued representation of students on all our committees and workgroups
- Participating in the Community Involvement Organization (CIO) meetings and events
- Working with the Arts Advisory Committee to encourage ways to seek out, employ, and honor native art and artists
- Supporting the work of the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access committee
Smart, Safe Transportation
From walking and biking options to stronger transit partnerships, Beth will work toward a transportation network that is safe, accessible, and responsive to our community's needs.
- Continuing work with the Community Advisory (Urban Growth and Renewal) Committee to ensure that we connect the Tualatin River Greenway Trail through downtown
- Advocating for commonsense solutions to traffic and congestion issues, especially in our downtown area so that we can access the resources and businesses we need
- Working with the Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee to ensure the successful connection of the Nyberg Creek Trail into downtown so that people can access businesses and community resources
- Keeping the needs of Tualatin's community front of mind as we continue to navigate public transportation (TriMet) service changes
- Continuing to work with local businesses, schools, and community organizations to provide more robust education about e-Bike and e-Scooter safety
Thriving Local Economy
Tualatin is a great place to live and a great place to work, eat, and shop. Beth will support policies that help local businesses grow, create living-wage jobs, and strengthen economic stability while honoring our small-town character.
- Continuing work with the Community Advisory (Urban Growth and Renewal) Committee to prioritize policy changes that are pro-business, like retail incubators
- Advocating for investment in a more distinctive and vibrant downtown infrastructure with things like a central gathering space or a festival street
- Championing common-sense partnerships between city and business with things like improvement programs for outdoor seating, windows & lighting at existing downtown businesses
- Partnering with existing local businesses through groups like the Chamber of Commerce to think creatively about how we can expand tourism in Tualatin outside of cornerstone events like the Pumpkin Regatta
Connected Neighborhoods & Civic Engagement
Strong communities begin with strong connections. Beth will support meaningful neighborhood relationships, clear communication between residents and city leaders, and simple ways for people to participate in local decision-making. A well-informed and civically engaged Tualatin is a stronger one.
- Supporting the work of the Community Involvement Organizations (CIO's)
- Finding creative, low-barrier and varied ways to expand civic engagement opportunities for our residents
- Using connections and skills as a community organizer to build relationships with and between existing community organizations and the city
Meeting Housing Needs
Safe, accessible, and sustainable neighborhoods depend on housing options for families, seniors, and young professionals alike. Beth will advocate for thoughtful solutions that allow people to put down roots in Tualatin.
- Advocating for a range of housing options (both affordable and market rate) as our downtown core area is expanded and reimagined so that people who work here can also afford to live here
- Championing complete and walkable neighborhoods: people should be able to get to the places they need (like retail, transit, parks, trails, and other essential services) no matter where they live in our city
- Building relationships with local and regional partners to find creative, sustainable, and collaborative solutions to housing challenges
Parks, Trails & Community Spaces
Our parks, open spaces, trails, and natural resources are central to Tualatin's identity. Beth will prioritize thoughtful planning and environmental stewardship to keep our city beautiful and climate resilient.
- Working with our Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee to ensure that the new Riverfront Park is built with both ease of use and preservation of the natural resources in mind
- Advocating for and seeing the successful addition of more lighted turf fields in our city
- Continuing to work with the Community Advisory (Urban Growth and Renewal) Committee to ensure that our revitalized downtown will be built by stewarding our natural resources and using sustainable building practices
